JackFruit Specials of Coastal Karnataka

 Jackfruit is always one's favourite. A jackfruit is large, with thick, yellow flesh and edible seeds. The flesh has a sweet, distinctive flavor. We use jackfruit when raw as used for curry and ripped jackfruit for preparing various snacks and breakfast items. There are some jackfruit special's that everyone must try from coastal Karnataka during the jackfruit season.

 1.Jackfruit Idli: Halasina Hannina Idli/Pelakaida Idli/Ponsa Idli is sweet Idli prepared from Jackfruit which is streamed with various ingredients with the batter in Idli maker and consumed with ghee.
2.Jackfruit fritters: Halasina Hannina Mulka/Ponsa Mulig is a sweet fritters prepared using jackfruit and other few ingredients which is deep fried in oil. This can be eaten during anytime and its everybody's favourite snack.


3.Jackfruit Gatti: Halasina Hannina Gatti/Pelakaida Gatti is similar to idli but it is streamed on teak tree's leaves, which gives amazing color and flavour to them and it can be served with hot ghee. 


4.Jackfruit Paaysa/Paaysu/Paaysam: This as a taste of jackfruit which is coupled with flavors of coconut milk and it is easily to prepare.


5. Jackfruit Chips:  Is one of the famous snack in Coastal Karnataka. It is made by deep frying half riped flesh of jackfruit. It is very tasty, crispy snack which can be preserved  in air tight containers for long time.

6. Kadle Gujje Sukka: Black Chickpeas/Kala Chana with Jackfruit. It is a spicy, dry side dish made using raw jackfruit.


7. Uppad Pacchir/Salla Upkari: Uppad Pacchir in tulu or Salla Upkari in konkani is famously known by the name across Coastal Karnataka. Bit raw jackfruit is preserved in salt for long time and can be used to prepare the curry/Sukka later on. In coastal Karnataka uppad pacchir is most favourite and liked by most of the people. It is a side dish which can be consumed with rice.
